Online one can see countless photo's of simply amazing bondage. Contorted bodies, immobilized in simply stunning positions. Such pictures can be fun to look at, but I fear that looking at them without some deeper understanding can occasionally lead people into dangerous situations.
Through the years, I've read more emails than I care to count from people who tried to replicate the bondage they saw online, with bad pain being the only true result. Luckily, nothing more serious. Yet.
Looking at sites that celebrate spectacular bondage one can quickly see that almost to a fault, the models in bondage are young. One should also assume that these bondage models work hard every day to ensure that their bodies remain as flexible as possible. They are devoted to this beautiful bondage, and they work to ensure that they can do it safely.
It is not reasonable for the vast majority of people to assume that they can practice extreme bondage positions safely and comfortably. Their bodies are just not properly conditioned to be able to do so.
I don't want my blog to become 'Milliscent's Safety Rants' but recently it seems that I've received a larger than usual number of emails in which people are telling me that they tried something they saw online and that it did not work well for them. This is a concern for me because bondage can be dangerous.
We should all enjoy the pictures of extreme bondage we see online, but we should take our personal bodies and our personal conditions into consideration before we try to replicate that bondage at home.
Play hard, but play safe.

Kinda like the warning,"Kids don't try this at home, these are trained professionals with years of experience.!" Glad you posted this it is importaint
And here I've just written a post arguing that accidents happen.
I honestly don't get why the "kids don't try this at home" thing needs to be explained to adults. I'm not very forgiving, I suppose. But if the arm don't bend that way, don't make it bend just cause you saw it in a picture.
For one thing, pictures can be faked.
At the Wet Spot in Seattle in 2000 I watched a woman have 8 needles inserted into the skin below her nipples, in two eight point star patterns. The process took more than an hour. It was done very patiently, very slowly, and the subject's condition was monitored by a nurse who stood at attention the whole time. Each needle was inserted with the professionalism of a surgery. There was nothing at all erotic about it. However, when it was all done, a series of pictures were taken, to show how amazing the final result was.
Nothing about the pictures included the nurse or even the face of the subject, nor the complete absence of any bondage or even domination. None of the blood which had been carefully wiped away during the operation, or which dribbled out when the needles were removed, was present for the pictures. Neither the woman's gasps, her pain, the fifteen minutes she needed to recompose herself at one point, ever made it to film.
Frankly, I don't see why it was a scene at all. Both I and my Mistress have seen a live operation. There was little difference.
For fools wishing to recreate the "scene," however, I'm sure they imagine the woman was restrained, probably gagged and completely turned on the whole time.
I can see no other purpose for the photographs other than to convey this message. Both those who make the message and those who accept it seem like idiots to me.
what? I cannot hang a girl by her ankles for two hours while I go get a hamburger?
Hey beautiful woman, how are you?

I've long been a great fan of The Bishop's bondage illustrations and regret that so many of them are either too risky or impossible.
Learning to distinguish between the reasonable and the nutty is one of the first thing a masochist really has to learn and a reason to try mostly have scenes with experienced and/or careful tops.
bdenied,
I guess people will never learn to play smart. Check out the news stories I posted today.
alexis,
You are right of course, such things shouldn't have to be explained to adults.
It does seem that the world is full of people doing painfully dumb things though.
patrick,
It is wonderful to hear from you. I am doing great! How about you?
rebecca,
I believe that in your neck of the woods you will again be having the Omak Stampeed and Suicide Race.
A much more exciting way to break ones neck!
richard,
Your words:
"Learning to distinguish between the reasonable and the nutty is one of the first thing a masochist really has to learn"
Should apply to sadists as well.
