I've been using AOL for my email almost as long as I've been using the internet. Forever it seems, certainly at least a dozen years.
Yes, most of my friends do think I'm nuts for sticking with this inferior system.
Well, all of my thinking about Blogger has gotten me thinking about AOL too. I'm currently experimenting with Squirrel Mail running on my own server. I'll probably make the change soon.
I don't imagine it will be easy to convince everyone to use the new email addresses, likely a nightmare. Exactly why I've stuck it out with AOL all these years. It will be good to modernize though.

Most ISPs provide mail forwarding at no extra cost. That way if someone doesn't use the new email for whatever reason, you'll still get the message. The forwarding service (more often than not) will show you what address they sent to, so if you see the AOL address you can email and remind them.
Alternately you should (I say should as I've never used AOL mail extensively, but this is pretty standard) be able to set up an automated response to anyone who emails your AOL account - and have the responder indicate the new address.
This way you'll be able to make the transition to the new address without having to tell everyone who emails you about it or missing out on any messages.
Yrs,

Hi Milliscent-
I'm with you there. I've stuck with it, despite having as many as three other, web-based email address at various times, just because it's my main one.
But sooner or later, I think I'll pull the plug on it, as well.

Yup, look for the mail forwarding. At the worst case it will give you a transition period while you convince everyone to use the new address.
j,
Thank you for the good advice. I will use both the email forwarding, and the auto responder.
I appreciate your help.
saratoga,
When it comes to computer stuff, I despise change. I think it's finally time though.
colin,
Thank you. I will do just that.
